secrets of a stylist: my bedroom.
Did you know that realtors are calling master bedrooms "Owner's Suites" now? I picked up on this new term while watching Magnolia Network and/or HGTV. Owner's Suite sounds so official...I just call it "My Bedroom". :)
The wood floors in all the bedrooms have been finished for a few weeks now and I've been forced to take my time to put them back together. With photoshoots back in full swing and my QuaranTina, it's taken a little bit longer than expected. But so worth the wait and the expense! I did have buyer's remorse as soon as I ordered the wood but no longer! I was able to find the same flooring that was in the living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway so the transition into the bedrooms is seamless! #score

The wood floors make the space look even bigger! And now my rug pops!
My bedroom is pretty close to being complete! I still have some work to do in the closet...like putting away all my shoes! I also want to go through my wardrobe and shoes to do a quick edit and see what I want to let go of this year. Spring cleaning time! I usually do this twice a year (Spring and Fall) and take my clothes to a consignment shop to try and sell them. My favorite place to go is Second Love in Denver. Such a cute store!

I went a little BOHO in here and I love it! So warm and relaxing. That hanging lamp I found at Target on clearance for $5! It's from the collaboration with Leanne Ford. #girlcrush

The star of the show is the headboard for sure! I found this beauty at one of my favorite stores in Lafayette - Due South. They are a lovely small business with clothing and home goods and a lot of style. The whole store is an inspiration!

I've had this dresser for about 20 years I think. I once painted it red and when I moved here, I stripped it down, stained and painted it white and added new drawer pulls down the center.

I created this triangle detail using painters tape. So easy and makes such a statement!
I'm a big fan of grouping little things together! Can you have too many vignettes?
I used a metal antler wall piece to hold my favorite necklaces - all of them are gifts from friends! The wall hanging is from Target. The pink vases I bought for a shoot from Hobby Lobby and never returned...the blush accent adds a sweet little feminine touch. I just found that weird pokey thing at an estate sale (coral maybe?). And the planter was a gift from a friend for my birthday this year! Her "hair" is growing quite nicely!

These cute little ceramic animals were a gift from my friend Kathy and recently found a home on these candle holders! I love using items for different purposes! The candle holders were also purchased for a photoshoot...and never returned!

I love this painting! It came from Jeff's collection and was from his Uncle Al's house.
I wonder who the artist is!
I have always had mis-matched furniture in the bedroom and finally decided I wanted matching sets to make my bedroom feel more cohesive. It took nearly 2 years to find nightstands I liked that didn't cost an arm and a leg (looking at you West Elm!). My sister actually found theses at Marshalls...one in NE and one in KS! They are wired too for easy phone charging and have extra plugs in the back. #doubleduty The pink chairs are from Hobby Lobby- I bought them for a shoot and kept them (surprise!!). The pillow is from IKEA and the lamps are from Home Goods. And last but not least, the monkey planter is from a dear friend who is an estate sale queen!

This deer planter was a gift from friends- they found it at an antique mall and added some air plants! I call Stella my baby dear...she always curls up like this! So cute!

"I strive to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am..." Everyday. #dogmom
This is from the Artisan Center in Denver...one of the best gift shops EVER!

My sweet sweet babies Bella and Dimoreo- oh how I miss them! My friend gave me these prints right after both my dogs passed away (almost 11 years ago!) and had framed them in black. After moving everything back in the bedroom, I decided to put them here so I could always be reminded of them and to be the person my dogs think I am. I changed the frames to brass to make them feel lighter and add a little shimmer.

The llama dama unicorn is a favorite. Do you see Zoe back there? She looks like a cat!

Hedgehog is also a favorite toy.

It may be "My Bedroom" but it is definitely just a giant dog bed! They love to tuck in between the pillows....you should see my bed somedays...

I do have a TV in my room, hidden in this armoire from Indonesia. It's perfect for watching movies on a cold day or a lazy Sunday (and during QuaranTina of course!)

My scarves! And that's after thinning them out! :)
I "hid" my scarves behind the door- just seemed like a nice place to tuck them in and keep them organized. The first time Jeff and his girlfriend at the time house sat for me, they closed the bedroom door and ALL of the scarves were revealed. After I returned, he said, "I didn't know Steven Tyler lived here!" and "Are you his stylist?" No Jeff. :)
I LOVE SCARVES for a variety of reasons and keeping my neck warm is at the top, especially during Winter and Fall! I hate a cold neck! :) They are such a fun accessory and add an extra layer of texture and interest to your outfit. They can be worn in pretty much any season! In the Summer I usually wear a small bandana and if I get too hot outside, I dip it in water and have an instant neck cooler!
stylist tip: Invest in a good bed. The average person spends about 26 years sleeping in their life which equates to 9,490 days or 227,760 hours. Surprisingly, we also spend 7 years trying to get to sleep. That's 33 years or 12,045 days spent in bed! (I googled it!) WOW!
I am a bargain shopper through and through and LOVE finding a good sale or deal on almost everything. A lot of the stuff in my bedroom is from discount stores: Target, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, etc. But, when it came to buying a new mattress, I shopped around and read a bunch of reviews before making my purchase. Money well spent. I SAVED a bunch of money on my other decor anyway, right?
stylist secret: I make my bed EVERY DAY! It is something I have done for years. Even when I stay at a hotel or AirBnB. It's so nice to come into the bedroom and see that bed all tidy (even if the dogs kind of destroy it throughout the day!) Also, I feel like I have accomplished something first thing in the morning which makes my day already off to a good start. Check that box.
I'm really enjoying the hard woods and love how clean the space feels. Such a great investment! Do you have a favorite piece in your room? Or have a morning MUST do?
